New Delhi: ‘Very few people can turn their passion into a profession. I am one of those lucky few’, this is what the ‘King of Bollywood’ Shah Rukh Khan had said once in an interview.
A boy who started his acting career with a television show ‘Fauji’ is today ruling millions of hearts all across the globe. The journey of SRK in the Bollywood industry is a dream for a craftsman who wants to pursue his or her career in the field of acting.
The ‘Badshah of Bollywood’ who started his career in mid-twenties has captivated the souls of his fans with his exemplary acting talent.
Today, he has reached a stage where words fall short to explain his achievements in the field of art and culture.
Shah Rukh Khan who is also celebrating 25 years in Bollywood has given his fans some unforgettable movies which they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
In the year 1992, Shah Rukh Khan made his entry on the silver screen, riding a bike singing Koi Na Koi Chaahiye Pyaar Karne Wala in the movie Deewana. His dimpled smile made everyone fall in love with him, and it has been 25 years since he has been ruling Bollywood.
Today as the ‘King of Romance’ celebrates his 52nd birthday; we have listed 5 of his unforgettable roles which left the world spellbound:
Chak De! India:
‘The last scene of this movie, when India saves its final penalty shot, every audience in the cinema hall was on their feet’, explains Vishal as he recounts his memory of watching Chak De! India. But what added more value to that scene was the joyous expression of Shah Rukh Khan.
Many believe that no actor in the Bollywood could have portrayed this role with the same amount of feelings. Chak De! India was one of those rare big-screen ventures which entertained and educated at the same time. Shah Rukh gave strong proof of his abilities as a performer when Chak De! India emerged a runaway hit at the box office, receiving some rave reviews along the way.
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge:
‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ is to the 90s kids what ‘Sholay’ was to the cinema lovers in the 70s. This movie enraptured millions of movie buff all over the world with Shah Rukh Khan’s charm, Kajol’s cuteness, Amrish Puri’s values and Farida Zalal’s motherhood. Although, calling SRK’s Raj the soul of DDLJ would be an understatement. The industry has seen many heroes of similar nature since then but none quite like him. The formula of a bad boy who turns good for his lady and then remains on the good path sounds cliche now but for the modern era of Hindi cinema, this was a first.
“Sachi mohabbat zindagi mein sirf ek baar hoti hai … aur jab hoti hai … toh koi bhagwan yah khuda usse nakamyab nahi hone deta”.
The dialog delivery of Shah Rukh in this movie manifested why he is called the King of Romance in Bollywood. The SRK-YRF (Yash Raj Films) combo has always given many cinematic treats to Bollywood. Starting from Darr to Dil Toh Pagal Hain to Mohabbatein, each of these movies have left a mark which will be remembered for many years to come but Veer-Zaara falls in that genre of films that can evoke emotion and enough sighs and cries from even the most unbelieving of audiences.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai:
Karan Johar’s smashing blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which completed a run of 19 years recently is being counted as one of SRK’s landmark movies. Millennials fell in love with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in the characters of Rahul, Anjali and Tina. And the dialogues from “Pyar Dosti Hai!” to “Kuch kuch hota hai Rahul, tum nahi samjhoge” became etched in our memories forever. Although it was Karan Johar’s directorial debut, the movie redefines the power of true love.

‘I Love You Ki…Ki…Ki… Kiran’ became the dialogue of the year after the movie got released. “The reasons I agreed to do roles which the other guys were saying no to (for whatever their mindset was), a Darr or a Baazigar, was because I thought I’m not good-looking enough to be a hero, so let me just get a villain’s job. I didn’t do it because I was gutsy or because I knew I could pull it off, I’m such a great actor,” Shah Rukh Khan, said on Spotlight.
